Kitesurfing is one of the most exciting extreme sports going today and it is also one of the most dangerous.  Like many other activities that take place on the open sea there is always a risk of injury or drowning.  Some of the more common dangers associated with kitesurfing are drowning, getting attacked by wildlife and injuries from the equipment itself.

When doing any sort of water activities on a large body of water it is a good idea that you know how to swim before entering the water.  You never know what could go wrong when you are surfing in the open waters and it is always best to be able to swim back to shore if needed.

It is not uncommon for kitesurfers to be attacked by sharks or other aquatic wildlife while taking their kitesurfing kites out for a spin.  Like their surfing comrades kitesurfers can appear quite tempting to sharks or other aquatic predators.  Because of their appearance in the water kitesurfers often look like the next meal for some sharks.  Always be aware of your surroundings and potential for sharks in your area when kitesurfing.

One other potential danger of kitesurfing is the kitesurfing kites themselves.  The long cords that connect the surfer to the kite can be a potentially hazardous piece of equipment.  When the kitesurfing kite is caught in the wind these cords become very taught and stiff.  Because of this they can become quite dangerous if a bystander was to get in the path of these cords when the kite was flying around.  These cords can be so dangerous that they cause amputation in severe cases.

When kitesurfing it is important to always be aware of your surroundings.  There are many potential dangers when it comes to kitesurfing.  Some of these dangers include drowning in the open waters, being attacked by wildlife and being injured from the kitesurfing equipment.  By being aware of your surroundings you lower your chances of being injured immensely.
